Pretty Boy Floyd Death Site: Beavercreek State Park

The Last Run of Pretty Boy Floyd

On October 22, 1934, notorious bank robber and murderer Charles Arthur, famously known as “Pretty Boy” Floyd, met his end while attempting to evade capture by federal agents and the East Liverpool Police Department. Earlier that day, Floyd had been involved in a violent shootout near Wellsville, which left law enforcement in pursuit of him.

As he fled, Floyd sought refuge at the home of Mrs. Ellen Conkle, a local resident, where he implored her for food and requested a ride to Youngstown, hoping to escape the relentless law enforcement close on his heels. Despite his desperate plea, the authorities were closing in on him.

Ultimately, Floyd was tracked down to a nearby cornfield, where law enforcement officers caught up with him. In a confrontation that quickly escalated, Floyd was shot and killed. The tragic end of his life came with a haunting final statement, as he reportedly exclaimed, “You got me twice,” highlighting the inevitability of his capture and the violent life he had led.
