Sneak Peek into the Supernatural at the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse-

Fairport Harbor Lighthouse: Ghost Cat

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Lake County, Fairport Harbor Lighthouse stands tall as a radiant beacon of safety, guiding countless ships and sailors through the treacherous waters of the Great Lakes. This historic lighthouse not only served as a crucial navigational aid but also played a significant role in the Underground Railroad, providing refuge for individuals escaping the bonds of slavery on their perilous journey to freedom in Canada.

The lighthouse, with its rich past, is also shrouded in tales of the supernatural. In 1871, Captain Joseph Babcock took on the esteemed role of the lighthouse’s head keeper, bringing along his wife and children. The family transformed their living quarters, now a vibrant museum, into a cozy home that welcomed several beloved cats. Over the years, the dedicated volunteers and curators who have tended to the museum’s exhibits have reported curious occurrences, including sightings of a phantom feline frolicking in the rooms, its ghostly form evoking the playful spirits of days gone by.

An intriguing discovery was made during the installation of a new air conditioning system when the mummified remains of a cat were unearthed from within the walls. This cat is believed to have been one of the cherished pets belonging to the Babcock family, possibly accounting for the mysterious sightings of the ghostly cat that continue to perplex and charm visitors and staff alike within the lighthouse’s storied halls.
